CATEGORIES

  • 2W (two wheel)

  • 4W (four wheel)

  • One (1) champion will be awarded in each category (two total).

  • Technicians can only participate in one (1) category at the National finals.

QUALIFICATION EXAM

  • Technicians qualify via an online, 75-question, multiple-choice exam (50 general knowledge and 25 category specific).

    • Only certified Honda Powersports technicians currently employed at a Honda Powersports dealership in good standing are eligible to participate.

    • You must achieve Red-Level certification by November 1, 2024, to compete at the National Finals.

  • Questions are generated from Honda Powersports Service Publications (training materials, set-up instructions, service and owner’s manuals, The Wrench articles, pre-delivery inspection sheets, etc.)

  • The use of Honda Powersports Service publications is allowed during the qualification exam.

  • There will be two qualification exams — one for 2-wheel and another for 4-wheel.

  • Each qualification exam can only be taken one (1) time.

  • Technicians will have one (1) hour to complete each qualification exam.

  • Technicians can take the 2W and 4W qualification exams and then choose the category that best suits their skills and experience. Again, you can only compete in one category at the National Finals.

  • Eight Technicians (four from 4W and four from 2W) advance to the National finals.

NATIONAL FINALS

Knowledge Competition

  • Competition elements: Product and maintenance knowledge sourced from current AHM service and technical training materials (service manuals, owner’s manuals, The Wrench articles, service bulletins, web-based and instructor-led training materials, etc.) To cover engine, frame, chassis, and electrical.

  • Competition Style: Multiple choice, written exam.

Practical Skill Competition

  • Competition elements: This is a practical skill competition consisting of disassembly/assembly, measurement, adjustment, problem diagnosis, replacement, repair, and final inspection. Technicians will be judged on vehicle and tool handling, work procedure, diagnosis results, safety, and speed. Full competition details will be shared during the National Technician Contest finals.

  • Competition Style

    • Off-Vehicle: Hands-on test of common service-related issues and tools.

    • On-Vehicle: How do you apply diagnosis, repair, use of resources, and final inspection.

    • MCS will be used during the competition.

    • All necessary tools will be provided.

    • Each finals competition will be judged and observed by qualified American Honda staff and guests.

NOTE

Cheating will not be tolerated during the qualification exam or the National Technician Contest. If it is determined and validated that a technician has cheated during any testing portion, the technician will be disqualified from the contest and no longer eligible for prizes.
