WHAT iS THE HONDA NATIONAL TECHNICIAN CONTEST (HNTC)?

The National Technician Contest tests U.S. Honda Powersports dealership technicians, pitting them against one another to determine the country’s top techs.


HOW DO I QUALIFY FOR THE HNTC?

An online, 75-question, multiple-choice qualification test determines eight finalists (four for four-wheel and four for two-wheel), who will advance to the finals. If a technician qualifies for the finals in both categories, they can participate in only one at the final competition. That technician will be required to decide at the time of invite.


WHO CAN TAKE THE QUALIFYING TEST?

The qualification test is open to all certified Honda Powersports technicians currently employed at a Honda Powersports dealership in good standing. To compete at the National Finals, you must achieve Red-Level certification by November 1, 2024.


WHAT HAPPENS IF I QUALIFY FOR THE FINALS?

If you are selected for the finals, you and one (1) guest will receive an all-expenses-paid trip (travel, lodging and meals) to Alpharetta, Georgia, for the National Finals competition. The event will include written knowledge tests and timed hands-on competitions. The events will be timed and judged by a group of hand-selected, technically qualified staff.


WhERE IS THE HNTC?

The National Technician Contest finals will be held at American Honda’s Powersports Training Center in Alpharetta, Georgia.


WHAT TYPE OF TESTING / COMPETITION WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE NATIONAL FINALS?

The event will include written knowledge tests and timed, hands-on competitions focused on Honda Powersports products, parts, and accessories.


WHAT DOES THE WINNER OF EACH CATEGORY / DIVISION RECEIVE?

All finalists will receive a generous prize package. The champions of the 2-wheel and 4-wheel divisions will each receive a prize package of even greater value. In addition, the category champions will qualify for an opportunity to represent American Honda at the 2027 Global Technician Contest in Tokyo, Japan.


WHEN IS THE HNTC?

The National Technician Contest finals will be held in January 2025. The qualification test is open between June 4, 2024, and August 31, 2024.


HOW MUCH DOES THE HNTC COST?

Eligible Honda powersports technicians can take the qualification test for free. Finalists will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the National Technician Contest.


Each eligible technician may take the online multiple-choice test one time. A maximum of one hour is allotted, and Honda service communications and training publications are permitted. The test comprises 75 questions (50 general-knowledge, 25 category/model-specific) from American Honda training materials, setup instructions, service and owner manuals, The Wrench articles, etc. Eight finalists (four for four-wheel and four for two-wheel) will be selected based on their performance on this qualification test.

HOW DOES THE QUALIFICATION TEST WORK?


WHEN WILL THE QUALIFICATION TEST BEGIN?

The qualification test will be open to all qualified technicians from June 4, 2024, through August 31, 2024.


CAN I USE OUTSIDE MATERIALS DURING THE QUALIFICATION TEST?

Yes, Honda service communications and training publications are permitted while taking the qualification test.


Eight finalists (four for four-wheel, four for two-wheel) will be announced in November 2024.

WHEN WILL HNTC FINALISTS BE ANNOUNCED?


In addition to the annual U.S. National Technician Contest, Honda Motor Co. will hold a Global Technician Contest in Tokyo, Japan, in 2027. The American Honda contingent will comprise the highest-performing past U.S. National Technician Contest winners (one from four-wheel, one from two-wheel) from the 2025, ’26, and ’27 National Technician Contests.
